Welcome to the premier edition of the President's Corner, the first of regular updates about what's been going on with your organization, STSN.
We had a good turnout at the STSN Business Meeting on April 16, 2008, during the PEPNet Conference in Columbus, Ohio. I discussed my short-term and long-term goals for our organization, and the Chairs of the various STSN Advisory Groups updated us on their work.
I've listed the goals again here for those of you who were not able to attend the meeting. Please review the Minutes of the Business Meeting for details of what was said in relation to these goals, and for other information presented at the meeting.
- Short Term Goals
- Execute Strategic Plan
- Institute Monthly Meetings with Officers and Advisory Group Chairpersons
- Review and Update Recommendations of Professional Standards Advisory Group
- Implement Web Based Membership Management
- Long Term Goals
- Increase Professional Development Opportunities
- Establish Professional Standards
- Standardize Procedures for Organizational Communication
- Increase Understanding and Awareness of Speech-to-Text Accommodations
Logo
STSN announces the release of its new logo (at the top left of this page), which was created by STSN's public relations chairperson, Cindy Camp.
In 2007, STSN began the process of finding a logo that would become the symbol of the organization. The organization represents a diverse group of service providers thus the search for a unifying symbol was not an easy one. A logo contest was held for contestants who are deaf or hard-of-hearing between the ages of 15 and 25. STSN would like to thank the students for their submissions. While many creative and appealing designs were submitted, none exactly captured the essence of the organization. Honorable mentions were awarded to Steven Boatman and Aaron Hall for their innovative graphical representation of STSN's mission and goals.
Thank you!
Thank you for your involvement in STSN! I look forward to our work together to reach our goals over the next two years. Please write to me at president@stsn.org with any ideas or questions!
Sincerely,
Shannon Aylesworth
